BIOGRAPHY

Tim Lefebvre (born February 4, 1968, in Foxboro, Massachusetts) is an American bass guitarist, producer, and composer whose playing spans rock, jazz, fusion, electronica, and R&B. Described as a "musical linguist" by Bass Musician magazine, he has worked with an extraordinarily wide range of artists, including David Bowie, The Black Crowes, Elvis Costello, Sting, Wayne Krantz, John Mayer, Mark Guiliana, Jamie Cullum, and Chris Botti.

Growing up in Foxboro, Massachusetts, with a father who was a middle school music teacher, Lefebvre began playing saxophone in fourth or fifth grade before gravitating toward bass. He went on to become one of the most sought-after session and touring bassists of his generation, appearing on over 150 recordings, including Grammy Award-winning albums and the soundtracks of films such as The Departed.

His most celebrated studio contribution remains his bass work on David Bowie's final album, Blackstar, released just two days before Bowie's death in January 2016. From 2013 to 2018, he was the bassist of the blues-rock ensemble Tedeschi Trucks Band, appearing on Let Me Get By (2016), Live From The Fox Oakland (2017), and Signs (2019).

Currently based in Los Angeles, Lefebvre performs with jazz-fusion guitarist Wayne Krantz, the improvisational free-jazz group Whose Hat Is This?, Donny McCaslin, and Grammy-nominated artist Rachel Eckroth. As a producer, his credits include singer-songwriter Rachel Eckroth's When It Falls (2018) and The Garden (2021), as well as the collaborative record XXXX by Wollny Parisien Lefebvre Lillinger.
